48. Brands’ responses on COVID 19

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Coronavirus is a large family of viruses causing illness. The virus is spreading like a fire across the world. In India, 100 cases of coronavirus have confirmed. People are taking precautions strictly, right from washing hands to wearing masks. To avoid the crowd and public transport, many offices have asked their employees to do work from home. Government has issued an order to shut down the schools, colleges, malls, theatres for few days.

In order to spread awareness and reduce the fear among people, brands are doing various campaigns. Personal hygiene brands like Lifebuoy from HUL is promoting the use of hand sanitizers to stay away from germs. HUL had released a print ad in which it was mentioned to use only alcohol based sanitizers, soaps. The key highlight of the messaging was that they mentioned their biggest competitors in their campaign and asked people to buy any soap they have access to. This shows that not only sales are important for a brand, their customer’s health is their top priority. Not only campaigns but also Q & A sessions with Ayurvedic doctors for mothers has been organized on digital media platforms to resolve all the queries related to Coronavirus. Amul caught our attention in their ad by a clever wordplay, “Better saaf than sorry” featuring the Amul girl washing her hands. Food delivery apps are also not behind in launching a campaign. Zomato is running social media campaign with an extremely small text against the red backdrop. One has to zoom it to read what it actually is saying. The message says, ‘Germs are tiny. So tiny you can’t see them with your eyes. In fact, there might be millions of them on your fingertips that you see to zoom in to read this. Please wash your hands before eating’. Likewise, other brands are also promoting personal hygiene in their own way.

In my opinion, taking precautions and regular checkups are the only way to stay away from coronavirus. Follow the instructions that have been given by the specialists strictly. Stay aware. Stay safe.
