On the first day of PRAXIS 8, before we started doing our duties, Shreya Krishnan, VP of marketing and communications at Avanti Insurance Brokers, had taken a session just for the students of SCoRe on Women safety at workplace. I think it was a perfect timing and a perfect topic to be told as we were about to enter into a big corporate summit which was totally new for us. It was necessary for us to know how should we react in what situation.
What if someone gives you an exciting job offer to trap you and you are totally unaware with the fact that the person is fooling you. Sometimes we hesitate to say no to the people who is very senior in post. Shreya told us how step back and say no. She also mentioned about bad touch and good touch and how to deal with that without making any scene in such a big event.
She told us about the types of sexual harassment and then the precautions. If such incident happens and someone you feel is trying to touch you with bad intention, then politely express your discomfort to the person and take a stern action in extreme bad cases. Always be in touch with few people whom you trust and know that they will help you out. Reach them first if any such situation occurs.
This was equally important for both girls and boys in our class to be aware that what kind of things can be happened at workplaces with women. After this session I was feeling confident and safe inside because I had a clear idea that what to do when something like this happens.
