There was a dialogue from a movie ‘Raid’ that “it is as important for the family of a soldier to be strong as for a soldier.” A soldier fights with the enemies of his country and his family fights with the fear of losing that soldier from the family. No one wants to live each and every moment of life in any kind of fear. So, the family gulp all the fear and decides to live a normal happy life.
The family lives months and months without that person (soldier) and waits for the moment when they will that person at their doorstep in uniform and a big bag hoping that at least they will spend 15 days together. That hope dies when the soldier gets an emergency call and leaves the home before 10 days. Spending festivals without family, not being there with family when needed is what sometimes makes the soldier little emotional and their family too. This is something which makes both, the family as well as the soldier strong. They become more independent to manage almost everything in their lives without any complains. The family’s support and understanding behavior is what makes the soldier keep going every day, every moment.
Death is not something which fears the soldier but dying without completing the responsibilities. It is a different feeling, a different kind of pride and experience of being a soldier’s family. The whole lifestyle is different. The whole surrounding is different. There is different fun in comparing and teasing the civilian friends of the family. They follow a different standard of doing work and not only work but also even talks. One can easily identify a soldier in a crowd without its uniform from his personality.
It is not easy to be a soldier’s family. A lot of sacrifices they hide behind their smiles.
